Wearable art unique embroidery and brass/aluminium jewellery.
Sculptured, shrunken and moulded stitched textile jewellery adornment.
For my embroidered jewellery I invented, designed and developed a unique sculptural technique in 1986, using layers of dupion silks and metallic threads and clear p.v.c. I machine stitch a sandwich of water soluble fabric, clear p.v.c. with cut-up pieces of the silk and threads inbetween, then stitch using whip stitch in a random pattern using gold metallic thread on top with a coloured cotton thread in the spool with a loose tension which raises the coloured cotton thread into bobbles on the surface. This is then shrunken briefly in boiling water then moulded, manipulated and sculpted into my desired shape and dried. I then constructed the pieces with brass or aluminium and sterling silver components for jewellery. Then swarovski crystal beads are hand-stitched on, sometimes goldwork or painted silk velvet stitched applique pieces are added then hammered brass or aluminium pieces. I use sterling silver findings for my earrings.
